The New Journalism Project began publishing under the imprint of NJP Publishing in 2016. Books shown on the sidebar are featured with descriptions and order links under the menu item Books.

New Journalism Project’s first book, Celebrating The Rag: Austin’s Iconic Underground Newspaper, received national acclaim.  Kirkus Reviews called it “A raucous, absorbing excursion back to the 1960’s and ’70s.” This 306-page book, edited by Thorne Dreyer, Alice Embree and Richard Croxdale, tells the remarkable story of the legendary little underground publication that sparked a political and cultural revolution and helped make Austin weird.

We are proud to announce a 2021 addition that tells the story of another underground newspaper, Space City! in Houston. Edited by Thorne Dreyer, Alice Embree, Cam Duncan, and Sherwood Bishop, Exploring Space City!: Houston’s Historic Underground Newspaper will go on sale December 7, 2021. See more about Exploring Space City! and an order link under the menu item, Books.
